6:27 pm - You're kidding me right?
I knew it was hot today, I mean my car (the one I just got back after 4 months of being in the shop) burst a hose on the radiator. THen I had to walk home from there . . .
But seriously-- high of a 100 fucking degrees man.

11:43 pm - When the cat's away
Funny story here:
After a ridiculously long evening at work I sped my ass home so I could actually maybe eat today & get back to my painting. About a block away I see this group of objects run out into the street making odd noises. After a second I realize its a bunch of kids streaking (probably 8 of them), most likely my neighbors and some friends. I don't think they saw me, and I didn't really want to ride into a bunch of emboldened teenagers and embarrass them, so I stopped my bike and waited a minute or so to allow them time to get over the thrill and run back to the house. When I start going again I round the corner to see that they were back for round two. They see me and start running. I just laugh and ride, pacing them a few yards back. I yelled that they were silly because it wasn't late enough to do that on a Friday night. I mean, it was only 11:30, silly girls.

Did I mention that there is an ice skating rink on the Plaza level of our store? Too much I say. I'm still gonna go tomorrow though.

I think I'm going home for New Years. First New Orleans after work on the 30th, via Baton Rouge where several transplants ended up, and then back to Amarillo on the 2nd/3rd, then back to Austin the morning of the 5th and close that night. (a lot of driving, pray that nothing bad happens) I know New Orleans will be depressing. But its the people that are important, right? I hope I can make it to Amarillo too. My brother, stepbrother, sister and niece will all be there. Its been years since we've all been together.

Alas, Mike C, Dat, Deb, and Brian have all returned to NOLA. They don't really know where they will be working yet (Baton Rouge, Vets, or Arabella). It was fun having people to hang out with that didn't have a group of their own already. They will be missed. I hear that Arabella will open Dec. 4. Not that I could afford to go back right now, esp. with rents being rediculous. But I would if I could. I don't know who I'm going to hang out with now.

Halloween was friggin awesome. I'm still trying to track down a picture of my costume. I was a lion tamer. I made a tuxedo jacket w/ tails and decorated it and wore a top hat. I carried around a stuffed lion and a whip. Lots o fun.

Work is very frustrating. No one here except front end (and those with promotions) has gotten raised since we opened and we just not started surplus. No one cares anymore. There is suck a lack of management that they have no idea what individuals are doing, so there is no feedback (positive or negative), so a lot of people realize they can do the bare minimum and still get paid. I'm not used to that attitude at WF, but its catching on to me too. I ned a change, but there's also no one with the time to talk to me about where I could go, or to help me learn new stuff.

10:24 pm - Life
I don't stay caught up on LJ much anymore. After being glued to the computer the days after Katrina I don't even want to see any more pictures of moldy houses or read about people who are so far removed from it that it doesn't matter. Plus I've been busy. I've been hanging out a lot with the kids from NOLA that are here (Mike C., Dat, Moussa, Brian, Miranda, etc) I seem to get along so much better with them than I do any of the people I've met in Austin, even though I barely knew them at all before. I want to go home.

This past week was particularly full due to spending two whole days in jail. That's right. Can I tell you how broken I am?? I am nothing now. DWI. I'll be screwed for the next three years now. I hate Texas.

I hate boys too.

4:13 pm - So this is hell.
117 degree heat index. Its the end of September. Yuck.

My car's busted. Riding my bike everywhere is actually cooler since I don't have AC in the car anyway, but not so convenient or safe at night.

Ive been spending a lot of time with my old work friends here. I guess that's mostly because they only know a handful of other people. In the entire six months I lived here before they came I went out to eat maybe four times (excluding WFM of course), then over the last few weeks we've been to at least 6 places. I like food.

I went to work to hang out and get food to distract myself from the souperdome nonsense. I ran into 5 old co-workers that have made their way here.

Mike and Deb from pizza start working here tomorrow. I think they might end up staying with us.
James (and Erin) and Nathanael Sprague are here with their older brother.
Emily Weldin and Raquel start work tomorrow too. They are staying w/ Emily's cousin who just moved here a month ago. The girls are coming over soon to raid my closet.

Its good to see them, but not necessarily under these conditions.

6:08 pm - I finally finished my other book and got to start Harry Potter
Back from Tallahassee, FL, a.k.a. really-not-a-city-at-all-even-though-they-claim-to-be-one, FL, where I met my niece and her daddy. The baby looks like an eskimo.

The first whole day I was there we went to Ocala to eat and visit my godmother's horse ranch place. Everything in the country there is so green and peaceful compared to Texas country where it is windy and rocky blegh. Relaxation is watching a giant spider weave its web.
Second day was beach day. Unfortunately it didn't come with sunlight, but we did see dolphins and stingrays. And the baby swam in the ocean. And we went to a seafood place for dinner where some religious sect was having a sing-a-long. Scary.

The rest of the time was either spent watching movies or helping my mom pick out colors to paint parts of her house. I was very impressed by her house. She's done a lot of work on it by herself. Redoing most of the walls, knocking down walls to create new rooms, totally re-landscaping the front and backyards, etc.

Then last I got to practically walk home from downtown with my bags. (see, it only costs 50 cents to take the bus from the airport to downtown, and I really am a mile at the most from where it drops off, but it was still hot and the bag was cutting off circulation to my arm) Yippee! And then I got to get up at 5:15 for a meeting this morning!

In all seriousness, I need help. Should I get the charcoal or the black pin-striped chucks????

10:21 am - Why I never try to have great expectations
Friday was my birthday. Having a summer birthday has always been lame, when I was a kid we weren't in school so there were no cupcakes during class. Then in college I was either home or still in NOLA and no one was ever around. So I pretty never tried to make a big deal of it. Well this year my roommate and I decided to have a party, which is this coming Saturday. But I also thought it would be nice to have people over for wine and chillin on my actually birthday. I only invited a handful of people, and really only expected three or four people to show. One of them being my friend Edward.

Turns out Edward was planning a surprise party for me at his house on Friday, but I had ruined it by planning my own gig and inviting some of the same people he had already invited to his party. I was so touched that he tried to do that for me. But he decided to tell me about the party thus canceling it basically. I just told him to tell people to come to my place instead. he had told the people I invited to tell me they were busy that night, so when he canceled his thing, I guess they thought I wasn't doing anything either.

So come Friday night the only person who came over was Trey, my friend who works in the same area of the store with me. And I only think he came over because I called him and made him feel obligated to come. Edward didn't even call or stop by. What?! Eventually Stacey called and she and Tyson were getting off work around 12:30 so they came over with an old Amarillo friend from out of town. We hit the bar until it closed and came back to my house.

I think my family forgot too. My sister left me a message, but I think it was a coincidence that it was my birthday because when I called her back she just needed computer help. :(

Whatever. Better make some fliers so people actually come on Saturday.

9:46 am - I don't need no stinkin' maintenance MAN.
This week I'm sporting cornrows and a bandanna. Which means I'm either going to a costume party as Rosie the Riveter or I'm hardcore and can do anything, muthafucka.

The voucher for my free water efficient toilet arrived on Monday. I could have made my landlord take care of it, meaning they might call me back next week, call a plumber the next, and actually make it over here next month, but I'd rather not have to wait that long. The city will pay for some of the installation, but hey, I'm thinking "I can replace a toilet by myself, it can't be that hard right??" And it wasn't. Yes, I had to call a male friend over to help me lift the old one off the floor. I couldn't get the tank off because the bolts were too rusted and I prolla coulda lifted that much weight, it was more of a size and leverage issue. It did take three trips to the hardware store to 1. get a longer connector to the water source, 2. get a vice-grip to get the old one off (I can't believe I didn't even own a wrench.) and 3. get a long enough connector to the water source that was the right size.

But hey, I installed a new water efficient, NON-LEAKING toilet practically by myself.

Then yesterday I replaced the electric switch for my light in my fan that had broken a few days ago. Piece-o-cake.

Now I'm going to attempt to fix a clamp in the kitchen that has prevented us from using one side of the sink for several months. Wish me luck.

And then I'll re-grout some of the bathroom tile that is falling off. Right.

3:24 pm - A real vacation!
Yay! I just booked my flight for a 5 day vacation to Florida, Aug. 19-24. Ok, it won't be a lie around in the sun relaxing vacation. My mom's flying me out to Florida for my birthday to see her, my sister, my niece, the niece's daddy and my godmother. I'll probably be expected to help with house renovations and be expected to cook feasts for everyone, but that'll still be fun.

I'm super excited cause I really need the time off, and I really want to see the baby.

And for anyone who is still reading this, the date is set. Me and my roommate are for sure having a housewarming(ha)/birthday/get down party. Her birthday is the 21st, but I'll be out of town and my birthday is Aug. 5, but she'll be out of town. So it looks like Aug. 13 will be the day.

Mark your calenders. Everyone should be there. I don't care of you have to drive 8 hours. We have a trampoline.

10:26 am - Fasting: Day 5
OK. So I've been on a juice fast this week. I was thinking about trying to do one for a few months now.

No, it isn't to lose weight. It is just for cleansing and detox purposes. It is also sort of a self-control thing, as normally I have about zilch of that.

I started on Sunday because I left work around 4 and hadn't eaten anything and wasn't really hungry, so why not? Unfortunately, I kinda broke it that night with a few drinks. Shame on me. That meant Monday wasn't very fun, is doesn't help that the second day is when all the crap starts to try to leve your body via bloodstream anyway. After I got my juice on (and a few pain killers) though, I wasn't so bad.

So one juice per day (only cuz thats all I wanted to pay for and all I really felt I needed) and lots of water and I actually feel really good. Although I drink tons of water, I am feeling strangely dehydrated. Its very convenient that I work next to the juice bar and can juice my own fruits/vegetables. Greens are very important, but I really can't stand most of them so I tried to pick ones that don't really add much taste.

Sunday: Odwalla Superfood and fresh squeezed OJ/vodka
Monday: Apple, parsley, lemon, kale, spiralina (Kale is freakin gross.)
Tuesday: Carrot, orange, spinach, spiralina, lemon (this one was probably the best)
Wednesday: Carrot, zucchini, lemon, ginger, spinach, spiralina
today: Don't know yet, but probably just gonna go peach/apple/pomegranate

The only time I really feel hungry or weak is when I get off my bike after riding somewhere.

This is probably the last day I'll be fasting. I need to be eating real food by Saturday and ideally I should ease back into that.

3:40 pm - I think someone has a conscience.
The City of Austin Water Conservation is giving away up to three free water efficient toilets to all its customers. It also gives rebates for installation and for using water efficient washers. It also has free shower-heads and aerators available at their offices.
This is just too much.

Our store (or some rich dude with too much money on his hands) bought LiveStrong bracelets for everyone that works here. That's roughly $600. That's awesome. I know we do the 5% days for local charities, so $600 isn't that much, but that's still pretty cool.

------------------
Oh yeah, and I've been ok. It finally rained after 2 weeks of hot hot hotness.

A few co-workers left today to open the Baton Rouge store. I'm really jealous because I wanted to go. I already know people there, I'm a hard worker, and I asked to go. There's a women who spent a long time training me and my little crew of 7 before our store opened. She has absolutely no food prep knowledge and pretty much left us high and dry, but she gets to go to raw food conferences c/o the company and parade around other stores (including this new one) like she knows what the hell she's doing. Additionally, I don't think my coordinator person here likes me much.

1:24 pm - Jeesh, I can't believe I forgot to update about this.
I am officially an Aunt.

My sister gave birth to a baby girl on June 7th.
Alanna McKenzie Velasquez weighed a whopping 7 lbs 13 oz, 20.5" long.
I was honored because Alanna is my middle name, but I think my sister chose it more because she just likes the name.

I don't get to see them until August, my mom is buying me a plane ticket to FL for my birthday.

-----------------------

I finally got my raise for all this supervisor nonsense. I've been working extra hours, doing inventory, ordering, and production sheets for the past month, all for the same pay I was getting before. I was also getting very frustrated. This is some compensation at least.

-----------------------
For all the New Orleans folk, I'll be in town for a measly day and a half. My friend, Tiger, is on leave from Afghanistan so he's having a party Monday night. If there's anything going on Sunday night or Monday, let me know.

3:56 pm - Nothin like an actual weekend and overtime.
I wasn't supposed to have any time off this weekend. I was scheduled yo work Saturday at my second job, but due to a major bender Friday night I couldn't make it in. Then Sunday was super slow so they told me to not even clock in, but to "come in and talk to the boss tomorrow". Which is today and he wasn't even in. So I have to wait until tomorrow to find out if he's going to fire me or just write me up. Neither thing would be a good thing, but it did mean that I had two whole days off in a row and nothing to do.

So I painted my kitchen. We decided that chianti would be a suitable shade.

Today I worked and got overtime pay. Woop! Everyone who was off was coming in to say they were just about to go tubing, or biking, or swimming, or something else that is fun, but did I get invited? No. And I even got off early. Whatev.
--------------
I've had my own health insurance for over a year now and never needed to use it for anything. Now I need it, or want to use it anyway. I gotta figure this stuff out. I haven't used any of these doctor/dentist/pharmacy things for years. So confused.

3:24 pm - I hate it when I'm exhausted, but hyper at the same time.
Yesterday I overheard a customer's phone conversation. It happens, the area where I work is very much like a bar, with chairs along the counter in front of me.

This guy was a grad student talking about his grades for the semester. He was telling the other person about a paper he had gotten back. The professor had written comments on it followed by "an excited mark, excited mark, excited mark."

I thought I was missing something until I realized the guy really meant "exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point." At least I hope he did anyway.

12:08 pm - Attention shoppers
Hey girls,

I'm looking for boots like these. Only blue and glitter-fied. I know they exist somewhere. Doesn't the girl in Bingo! wear some, but hers red and over the knee?

Where do you think she got em? Sole Star?

Help me.

I bought a trampoline yesterday, a 15' round one. Granted it is used, but $80 for one that's not even a year old is not bad. I've always wanted one, I hope I don't neglect it.
I set it up all by myself. Unfortunately now I'm suffering with 45 mosquito bites all over my body. Damn bugs. We also haven't had the grass cut since we moved in two months ago, so I'm sure the bamboo forest now growing out there is only making the problem worse. I hate bug bites.
